Spring has sprung…..the grass has riz?

Ok so the grass hasn’t risen yet, but we can see patches of it in random spots around the city, so it’s something! I was looking back on old pictures a couple of days ago while adding a post to the designs section of this site, and realized a weather pattern and that it’s really neat to have had a digital camera. We have pictures of mid-late March dating back to 2003. 2003 was gross and cold, 2004 wasn’t as bad, 2005 we had a blizzard mid-March, 2006 the kids were outside in short-sleeves and this year is about right in the middle. The last week or so it’s been above freezing, but not “great”, enough though that the river’s thawing and the snow is going away.

Haven’t seen a Robin yet though :) Though considering the wind today, maybe they’ve blown away.

We’ve all been looking forward to spring, the kids mostly because it means they’re that much closer to the summer and trips and the lake and warm and the pool. Sophia and Max don’t have a total grasp on just how long three months is, so we’ve been counting days, not months. And we usually do have summer weather in June, so it’s only a couple more weeks of colder, ickier weather. Hell, we’ve had a couple of NASTY hot May’s, so that’s only a month away.

I personally can’t wait until it’s above freezing, because although we’re not doing a garden or anything (no space that’s ours), I do grow herbs and I can’t wait for that. I’m thinking maybe some really cool potted flowers too would be neat on the front step, but I always have great plans, and never get to do them. Herbs though, I love for those. I’d love to find a way to have an indoor mini-greenhouse for those all year. Last year we grew lemon thyme, HUGE basil plants and chives. The year before we grew chocolate mint in addition to that, and OMG, that stuff is amazing!!! Bashed up with vanilla sugar and sprinkled over fresh, June strawberries? Nothing better! I want to do lavendar this year too. Not to eat, though you can, but I LOVE the smell and I want to make homemade bath stuff with it this year.

So we’re waiting patiently for it to be warm enough for all that. But, we’re loving the fact that the snowsuits are ready to be packed away and the bikes and skateboards and balls and stuff come out. And with the snow melting, finding all the stuff left out last year LOL It’s like all new toys :)
