Looking for the BEST Belgian waffles recipe ever? Look no further! The sweet, crunchy outside? The chewy warm center? Ugh, I need to go make this IMMEDIATELY.
This traditional Liege waffle recipe is certainly special. It is more difficult than 99.9% of anything I usually cook, but they are sooooo delicious, it’s totally worth it. I have looked high and low for the perfect Liege waffle recipe and this one is the BEST Belgian waffle recipe I have found. I follow it exactly and the results are truly scrumptious.
I was first introduced to Liege waffles, or traditional Belgian waffles, in Los Angeles and my whole family fell in love. They are not a typical batter type waffle, but rather an actual dough. The crunchy outside is coupled with a chewy inside makes them a different texture than a traditional American waffle, but they are AH-mazing. Admittedly, it’s takes a little more planning because you need to prep a few hours before making them, but they are the perfect treat if you are planning special holiday or celebration. Sometimes, when I make this Belgian waffle recipe, I make extra and freeze it, so I can just pull it out the night before I want to make them.
I think the magic of the recipe are the sugar crystals that are added before cooking. They give the waffles a perfect sweet crunch that I die for. It completely eliminates the need for syrup or whipped cream. I simply top our with fresh fruits and they are perfection!
