Traditional Belgian Liege Waffles

Confession: I’m not a huge lover of Valentine’s Day. I don’t love the idea of forced romance, overpriced dinners or crowded restaurants. I don’t want a huge box of angel-shaped chocolates to ruin any diet progress that I may have made since New Years Day. I prefer white roses over red and I love choosing my own jewelry. (As I’m typing this, I realize that I must be such a nightmare for my husband. Sorry, babe.) I totally understand that some people love the holiday and wait all year for the romantic date, but it’s just not my thing.

I do, however, try to make it sweet for my girls (again: sorry, Marc.) I try to sprinkle a little magic around the house with a thoughtful gift or special treat. And this traditional Liege waffle recipe is certainly special. It is more difficult than 99.9% of anything I usually cook, but they are sooooo delicious, it’s totally worth it. I have looked high and low for the perfect Liege waffle recipe and this one is the BEST. I follow it exactly and the results are truly scrumptious.

I was first introduced to Liege waffle in Los Angeles and my whole family fell in love. They are not a typical batter type waffle, but rather an actual dough. The crunchy outside is coupled with a chewy inside makes them a different texture than a traditional waffle, but they are AH-mazing. Admittedly, it’s takes a little more planning because you need to prep a few hours before making them, but they are the perfect treat if you are planning special holiday or celebration.

I think the magic of the recipe are the sugar crystals that are added before cooking. They give the waffles a perfect sweet crunch that I die for. It eliminates the need for syrup or whipped cream. I simply top our with fresh fruits and they are perfectection! If you try the recipe, please share and let me know how they turned out!

Thanks for reading and sharing!

XO, Christi

Love the blog! Looking forward to the next posts!
Please don’t take this the wrong way but I think there may be a word missing
“magic around the house with a thoughtful gift or special .” Special treat maybe??
Looks like a space was left to add a word in but didn’t make the cut.
